New Partnership Between Stevens Transport and Dragonfly Energy

Stevens Transport, North America’s leading temperature-controlled carrier, is pleased to announce its partnership with Dragonfly Energy to integrate innovative lithium-ion battery technology into its fleet operations. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of Stevens Transport’s transportation solutions.

While many companies in the transportation industry remain focused on the full electrification of fleets, Stevens Transport and Dragonfly Energy are championing a more immediate and attainable approach: hybrid electrification. This strategy combines a combustion engine alongside lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, providing a cost-effective, sustainable solution that enhances fleet performance and decreases operational costs.

By adopting Dragonfly Energy’s lithium-ion batteries, Stevens Transport is taking bold strides toward a greener and more efficient future. The advanced battery technology provides several key advantages over traditional lead-acid batteries, including longer lifespan, lighter weight, and faster recharging times. These benefits align perfectly with Stevens Transport’s commitment to delivering reliable and environmentally conscious transportation services.

The integration of lithium-ion batteries allows Stevens Transport to reduce maintenance costs and improve the overall operational efficiency of its fleet. With the ability to charge batteries more quickly, drivers experience less downtime, ensuring timely deliveries and enhanced customer satisfaction. Furthermore, the lighter weight of these batteries contributes to improved fuel efficiency, lowering overall operating costs and reducing the environmental impact of Stevens Transport’s operations.

“At Stevens Transport, we are dedicated to leveraging innovative technologies that drive efficiency and sustainability in our operations,” said Nick Forte, Vice President of Maintenance at Stevens Transport. “Partnering with Dragonfly Energy enables us to stay at the forefront of the industry by adopting solutions that benefit both our business and the environment.”

This initiative underscores Stevens Transport’s leadership in setting new standards for sustainability in the logistics industry. As the company continues to embrace cutting-edge technologies, it reinforces its reputation as a forward-thinking and responsible transportation provider.

The Wreaths Across America Transportation Team, together with countless volunteers across the nation, take pride in having the finest representatives of our industry contribute to this meaningful mission. United, we achieved the tremendous task of honoring and remembering our nation’s fallen heroes. The dedication by all involved ensured the memories of our veterans live on, their final resting places are adorned with the honor they deserve, and ensured the mission of Wreaths Across America, “Remember the fallen. Honor those who serve. Teach the next generation the value of freedom.” was met with overwhelming success.

Stevens Transport was honored to participate in the Wreaths Across America program this year and is especially grateful for the opportunity to support three missions, delivering to Arlington National Cemetery, the DFW area, and South Carolina. Since our initial involvement in 2017, Stevens Transport has been deeply intertwined with the Wreaths Across America initiative, contributing to their living tribute of fresh evergreens. This tradition represents a living memorial that honors our nation’s fallen heroes, Veterans, active-duty military, and their families. We believe the WAA 2024 Theme: Live with Purpose aligns with our enduring commitment, and we are proud to have had the opportunity once again.

Driver and U.S. Army Veteran, Shane Lassiter, was a part of a convoy from Maine to Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. On December 13th, Virginia State Police, Arlington County Police, and Fairfax County Police escorted the trucks to Arlington National Cemetery. On National Wreaths Across America Day, Lassiter joined volunteers in placing wreaths. He was able to honor a friend and fallen soldier he served with in Iraq, placing a wreath and saying his name out loud, ensuring his memory lives on. “The event was humbling and very rewarding.”, said Lassiter.

Four drivers supported the DFW area and South Carolina missions, U.S. Army National Guard Captain Mark Joseph, U.S. Army Veteran Justin Collins, Charles Grier, and Patrick Castillo. From the initial loading and delivery to the yard in Dallas by Collins, to the seamless deliveries completed by Grier, Joseph (DFW area), and Castillo (SC). It was a successful collaboration represented by our drivers honoring the Wreaths Across America tradition for our active-duty, Veterans, and deep-rooted military family members.

The support from a dedicated transportation network allowed us to aid in the mission that met unprecedented heights, by helping deliver over 2 million Veterans’ wreaths across the 4,600 participating national cemetery locations nationwide.

We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to collaborate with our partners again. The 2025 National Wreaths Across America Day is set for Saturday, December 13th – let us continue this meaningful journey together!

2024 Stevens Transport Honor Fleet:

Shane Lassiter – Maine to Arlington National Cemetery, representing Stevens Transport in D.C.
Mark Joseph – DFW Load Driver and U.S. Army National Guard Captain
Justin Collins – DFW Load Driver
Charles Grier – DFW Load Driver
Patrick Castillo – DFW Load Driver to South Carolina

Collaboration Addresses Livestock Feed Concerns

Mesquite Championship Rodeo and Stevens Transport Assist North Carolina Hurricane Flood Victims

Stevens Transport recently demonstrated its commitment to community support by delivering an impressive 42,000 pounds of livestock feed to victims of flooding in North Carolina. This significant effort was made possible through a collaboration with the Mesquite Championship Rodeo. Stevens Transport Vice President of Operations, Smokey Adams, facilitated the cross-country delivery. Eric Cooper, a member of the Stevens Transport driving force since February 2023, delivered the livestock feed to South Carolina.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which left Western North Carolina devastated, Stevens Transport handled the logistics of the massive feed delivery. Rodeo officials mobilized to collect the vital supplies for the farmers and ranchers in need. Mesquite Police & Fire escorted Cooper and the truck through Texas to ensure the safe passage of the supplies to the Louisiana state line where he continued to the delivery destination in SC.

Through the partnership of Stevens Transport and the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, a significant difference was made in the lives of those affected by the flooding, reinforcing the importance of community and collaboration in times of crisis.

Texas governor Greg Abbott recognized these efforts with a letter of appreciation to Stevens Transport and the rodeo for their “profoundly positive impact farmers, ranchers, families and communities” by showcasing “the spirit of our state on a nationwide scale.”

Truck Driver & Army Veteran Cory Troxell Drives Off With Big Win

The Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award ceremony took place on December 14th at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., where Cory was presented with the grand prize—a fully loaded Kenworth T680 Signature Edition truck valued at nearly $200,000. This life-changing award will enable Cory to fulfill his dream of becoming an independent owner-operator and establish himself as a business owner working with Stevens Transport.

Launched in 2016, the program aims to promote careers in the transportation industry for transitioning military Veterans, National Guard members, and Reservists. This prestigious award highlights the hard work, dedication, and achievements of veterans who have chosen trucking as their next chapter.

Cory Troxell’s journey to this recognition is a testament to his resilience, service, and commitment. Born into a military family at Fort Hood, TX, Cory was inspired to serve his country following the events of 9/11. He enlisted in the Army in 2004 immediately after high school and went on to serve with distinction. During his second combat tour in Iraq (Mosul) in 2009, Cory was severely wounded in an enemy IED attack, an event that earned him the Purple Heart. Despite the challenges, Cory demonstrated immense strength and perseverance, continuing his service in the Army until his retirement in 2024.

Throughout his military career, Cory served in some of the Army’s most renowned armor battalions and cavalry squadrons, with operational assignments in Iraq, Korea, and Kuwait. His dedication to service has been mirrored by his family. His father currently drives for Walmart, his uncle drives for Sigma, and his son, Cory, proudly serves on active duty in the U.S. Army.
Upon retiring from the Army, Cory’s transition to the trucking industry was a natural fit. Following in his family’s footsteps, he joined Stevens Transport and quickly distinguished himself as an exceptional driver. His hard work, discipline, and leadership skills honed during his military service have played a significant role in his success.

“I honestly thought after coming out of the military that you fade away. No one thinks about you anymore; you’re done. But this is proof that’s not true,” said an emotional Cory Troxell during the ceremony. “I cannot thank Stevens Transport enough. To everyone at the company, thank you, thank you, thank you,” he added.

Angela Horowitz, Vice President of Stevens Transport, shared her excitement for Cory’s recognition: “We could not have nominated a better candidate than Cory Troxell. Veterans are so important to our country, and Cory brings commitment, discipline, focus, professionalism, integrity, and safety to the job. Those are the cornerstones our company is built on.”

The Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award is a collaborative initiative by Kenworth, Hiring Our Heroes, and Fastport, aimed at supporting military veterans transitioning to the trucking industry. Cory Troxell is the third Stevens Transport driver to win this prestigious award, solidifying the company’s commitment to veterans and the transportation industry.

Stevens Transport is incredibly proud of Cory’s accomplishment and grateful for his contributions to both our country and the trucking community. Please join us in congratulating Cory Troxell on this well-deserved recognition and in thanking him for his service and dedication.

Cory’s story exemplifies the values of hard work, perseverance, and patriotism. We look forward to seeing him continue to excel on the road as a symbol of excellence and inspiration for veterans transitioning into new careers. Congratulations, Cory!
